John Bunnel is an outsourced CFO and consultant delivering strategic planning, exit strategies and due diligence to privately held businesses. His passion is working with Owners/CEOs/Presidents to drive enterprise value by sharing his knowledge gained from Fortune 500 experiences. This passion for driving strategy and execution has been honed by twenty years as a Big Four consultant and CFO. John has worked across a variety of industries for both public and private companies ranging from start-ups to those with billions in revenue. John helps Owners/CEOs/Presidents navigate their companies with purpose and precision and begins to focus them on planning for an Exit event.
John has twenty years of experience advising boards, management, investors, corporate bankers, investment bankers, attorneys, accountants, investors and regulators with respect to restructures, reorganizations, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, valuations, corporate strategy and corporate structure. During his career, John has led finance teams representing issuance of $6 billion in Asset Backed Securities and has provided attestation and structuring services on $4 billion of Collateralized Mortgage Obligations. John has worked on numerous mergers, acquisitions and divestitures including a $2 billion portfolio sell of multiple asset classes.
From 2005 to 2009, John was Chief Financial Officer for two divisions of GMAC Mortgage LLC – Ditech and GMAC Direct which had revenues in excess of $700 million each during his tenure. In addition to his core finance responsibilities as CFO, John led strategic planning and marketing analytics. His responsibilities included reporting, forecasting, pricing, analytics, information systems, outsourcing and customer care.
From 2002 to 2004, John was Chief Financial Officer for four divisions of Wells Fargo Consumer Credit Group which had assets approaching $50 billion generating $1 billion after-tax income at the time of his departure. John re-built the finance team into a highly functioning team across six cities with responsibilities for forecasting, reporting, pricing, analytics and strategic planning, and operational capacity planning.
From 1997 to 2002, John had several roles including heading the Asset Securitization Group at BancOne/First USA; serving as Chief Financial Officer for FirstPlus Direct; building and leading a de novo consumer finance division at Life Bank.
John began his career with Ernst & Young’s Financial Advisory Group in 1989. Over the course of seven years he served a variety of clients including Wal-Mart, TU Electric, Trammell Crow, Piggly Wiggly, Bank of America, NationsBank, PNC Bank, Capstead, Capstone Partners, Wingate Partners, Lomas Realty, Southmark, Southland, Fairfield Communities and AmWest Savings.
